Rajasthan – a state brimming with sand dunes, striking traditions and high temperatures that soar to over 50 degrees C. with very little rain each year. Undoubtedly it’s one of the most difficult places to live on the planet. Yet, somehow life has existed here for millennia. And not just typically tough desert characters. Beyond the dunes lies a tapestry of landscapes, the woodlands, scrubs, dry forest and even cities. These habitats provide homes for an incredible array of animals. Humans have flourished here since the Stone Age and so has these giant yet friendly animals. Locals with coulourful histories and ancient traditions share a spiritual connection with nature and elephants. Together they have made this most crowded dessert an oasis to thrive. Exploring India’s pink city will help you uncover its hidden secrets and the unique spiritual relationship between an animal and human that exists here.

Jaipur offers a contrasting canvas to celebrate the traditional and modern way of life. Amidst all these old and new rulebooks, lies the ancient alliance of an elephant and man. Rendezvous with Chanchal - Getting to know each other. If you wish to explore the intelligence of an elephant, you don’t have to cunningly disguise to intrude the herd, rather she welcomes you with a warm heart. #elephantexperience in #India.

Confession time - Even though I am a big fan of elephants, I was scared to be near our gigantic friend.

Smiles Can you see Chanchal smiling here? Magical indeed!  #howtomakeelephantshappy ?  #feed #greengrass . Apparently she loves the green bits and the best kept secret told to us by her caretaker Shakir, that bundle up the green grass with the dried hay to ensure she gets all the nutrition. Sounds familiar parents? Yes, elephants are very smart and  just like your naughty tots they know exactly how to separate the greens from the hay.

Chanchal - was well fed while we prepared for our next ordeal with Shakir, the mahout.Their caretakers are called Mahouts. Their painstaking attention to detail, transforms their habitat into a flourishing play ground at elephant farm just a few kms from Amber fort in Jaipur.

Colour Me Happy

Time for some colouring with Chanchal. Yes, I was skeptical as you might be at first but be rest assured, the colours used here are pure organic carefully prepared by the mahouts. Be prepared to witness some of the most emotional moments in your life here at the elephant farm n jaipur. Elefantastic makes it possible to bring out the inner child in you so play along.

One of the most interesting revelation here was the female elephants are obedient and more acceptable of humans than the male elephants. So the owners take immense care of keeping the human interaction limited to the loving females in the herd. Come to think of it – isn’t it true for all the species including humans?:)

Shower time

No one is spared from elephants shower at Elefantastic, so if water is not your thing, you are sure to miss out on this once in a lifetime shower! Statistically an elephant can siphon up to 9 litres of water in one go which is 3 times more than what a human drink in a day. Therefore, you will be soaked not once but as long as your elephant is having a jolly good time with you.  Make sure you carry a pair of extra clothes as they provide pretty good facility to change after you are literally drenched.
